Reflection #1

This is late as well... but realized it's better to post it late rather than never! Oops again!

After writing my first essay for this course, I was able to pick apart certain aspects of my writing that will help me better my subsequent essays for this course. The most significant thing that stuck out to me was my ability to write well, but definite weakness when it came to promulgating a strong, succinct argument. I’ve always wanted to be a creative writer, which is definitely where my strengths lie, but I need to improve myself in the other facets of the English language as well. Although I still have quite a lot to improve upon, this assignment definitely helped me pinpoint just what aspects of my writing I need to focus on more.

In addition to furthering my writing skills, it also made me think more critically about the different aspects of sex when portrayed by the media. I’ve long since known that I’ve become drastically desensitized to images of violence (due to horror movies and the like), but I hadn’t realized just how many aspects of my life had been affected by this desensitization, including the realm of sex. It’s pretty insane to think about just how much we are affected by the media’s portrayal of the lives we live.

Overall, I truly enjoyed writing this essay, as it was both interesting and personally helpful in honing the skill sets I hope to use later in life.
